Institute for Narrative Studies and Representation- Innsane

Innsane is an interdisciplinary platform dedicated to exploring the relationship between media, narrative, identity, and power through research, training, artistic production, and public engagement.

Why Innsane

Innsane emerges from a central conviction: that representation is never neutral, and that narratives play a decisive role in shaping political imagination, social belonging, and institutional power.

The slogan “Because of Who You Are” reflects the institute’s broader inquiry into how identity influences credibility, legitimacy, access, protection, and speech within media and public institutions.

Positioned at the intersection of postcolonial inquiry, media studies, storytelling, and social critique, Innsane seeks to examine how institutions shape public narratives, determine legitimacy, and produce visibility or silence around certain communities, voices, and experiences.

What We Do

Innsane produces essays, analyses, reports, and multimedia content on topics such as media representation and narrative power, postcolonialism and the coloniality of knowledge, race, religion, and journalism, institutional silencing, identity and public discourse, Palestine, global media narratives, and storytelling as political practice.

  • TRAINING AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT:

The institute develops workshops, lectures, and training programs for journalists, students, cultural institutions, NGOs, and the broader public. Topics may include: postcolonial and decolonial approaches to journalism, representation and media ethics, storytelling and narrative construction, diversity and structural bias in media institutions, public speaking and narratives, sovereignty, documentary and immersive storytelling techniques.
